She Once Was a Normal Girl
CATHERINE BRADLEY
She once was a normal girl
Birthday cake
13 candles
Cake decorated with her happiness
Blow out the candles
Wish for luck
You”ll need it
She once was a normal girl
She dreamed of being an author
Getting to write her life stories
Little did she know she already was
She once was a normal girl
She sat in silence
Up in the Secret Annex
Where her life was trapped
Where days seemed endless
Waiting for death’s shadow
To pass by her window sill
She once was a normal girl
She wrote in a diary
To keep her mind off the war
That was going on
On the field
And inside her head
She once was a normal girl
Pages worn thin
Pages filled with scribbles
What once was a present
Was now her best friend
Kitty was worn in
Fitting into her hands perfectly
When she picked her up
Pen to paper
Let it all out
Even those feelings of doubt
She once was a normal girl
She had a faith
That could not be explained
After endless years in prison
Anyone would be insane
She once was a normal girl
What was two and a half years
Aged her 10
Then she was discovered
She once was a normal girl
Freight Train
Which led to hell on earth
Life thrown to the wolves
That would devour her
She once was a normal girl
One thing they could never take
Was her spirit
Now she lives on through her story
As a simple memory
And we cry
When we think of her
She once was a normal girl
